The Garden Bar

As a designer, The Garden Bar was in need of a complete rebrand to bring them into the 21st century. Using color and typography elements from their past, I created a new look to fit the atmosphere of the local spot.

Old Logo Design

My main goal with this project was to create a brand that fit the space and vibe of the local Pittsburgh restaurant. Their old logo had legibility and brandability issues making it difficult to produce successful marketing content.

To create this logo, there were many drafts and reviews my peers to gain insight on brand perception. While “garden” is in the name, it is misleading that this restaurant is your new healthy dinner spot. I went through many different color pallets avoiding greens to alleviate any confusion. I chose to use the black and orange/gold tone from their original logo and pair it with a new fun blue to bring a welcoming, but fresh feel. Playing around with typography, I was able to create a font that had whimsy without being too childish. Using the new logo, I created business cards, social media icons, and other marketing materials for their new branding.

These were original mockups I created when redesigning the branding for the Garden Bar & Restaurant. I was unhappy with many elements of the original logo, so my first thought was to completely go in a new direction. After introducing these mockups to peers and professionals, a few issues were brought up. The choice of using green along with the Garden name insinuates a "health-style" restaurant, which is not the intended customer base. The logo is very basic and the font and coloring does not resonate with the laid back family atmosphere. I revisited the old logo and chose to incorporate the orange from the original logo and pair it with a fun blue color and a font I created. The first mockups helped me to recognize the needs of the brand and what the new logo needed to say to their audience.
